Specialist dry clean only.

Take your piece to a specialist who cleans fur and fine wool. Never machine wash, tumble dry or iron the fur.

Hang your coat on a wide, padded hanger so the shoulders keep their shape.

Store it in a breathable cotton garment bag — never plastic — somewhere cool, dark and dry, with room around it so the fur isn't crushed.

After wearing, give the fur a gentle shake to lift it and let it air before putting it away.

If it gets wet, shake off the water and let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators and direct heat. Don't brush fur while it's damp.

• Do keep perfume, hairspray and lotions away from the fur.
• Do avoid long spells in direct sunlight, which can fade colour.
• Don't carry a bag on the same shoulder for long periods — it can flatten the fur.
• Don't fold your coat for storage.
