How to Care for Your Real Fur Coat

A real fur coat is a timeless investment, and with the right care, it can stay beautiful for decades. Proper maintenance preserves the natural oils in the fur, protects the pelt, and keeps the coat looking luxurious.

Cleaning & Care

  • Always have your fur professionally cleaned by a specialist—never wash at home or use standard dry cleaning.

  • Gently shake after each wear to remove dust, and lightly dab any spills instead of rubbing.

  • To refresh the fur, hang in a cool, ventilated space or use a blow dryer on a cool setting at a safe distance.

Wearing & Handling

  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, hairspray, or makeup, which can dry or stain the fur.

  • Refrain from carrying heavy bags on your shoulder to prevent matting and wear.

Storage

  • Hang on a broad, padded hanger to protect the coat’s shape.

  • Store in a breathable garment bag—never plastic—in a cool, dark space (ideally below 10°C).

  • For long-term protection, professional cold storage during warmer months is highly recommended.

Maintenance

  • Use a soft fur brush occasionally to keep the coat fluffy and smooth.

  • Inspect seams and linings regularly and repair promptly if needed.

  • Avoid crushing the fur by sitting on it or storing it under weight.

  • To remove unwanted odours, place the coat in a breathable bag with a small container of ground coffee—the natural aroma will gently absorb odours.

With the right care and attention, your fur coat will remain soft, elegant, and wearable for many years to come.
